Acne is a skin condition that presents itself mildly with some,having just a few spots or pimples, to extreme cases of cystic acne that covers the entire face and neck. This can cause physical and emotional stress because the acne is so visual and in an exposed area. It has been suggested that there could be one acne vitamin, sort of a cure all, as far as acne is concerned.
Actually, that is not the case. But, that is not to say that the valuable research done in this area has not produced results. By taking certain vitamins that help the skin to fight off the effects of today’s environment it will prevent the occurrence of acne outbreaks.
What we need is the removal of toxins from our bodies. Vitamins and minerals do that for us because they are anti-oxidants. A healthy body and organ system are dependent on these anti-oxidants. The largest organ in or on the body is the skin, of course. Nutrition has been blamed for blemishes and a plethora of skin complaints, or should I say, poor nutrition and lack of the correct vitamins and minerals.
Take care with acne vitamins, because overdosing may trigger an outbreak of acne. As an excretory organ as well as the protective layer against the environment, the skin aids in the removal of toxins from our bodies. The skin removes body toxins, wastes and sweat. Because of this the skin would have to remove the excess, unwanted vitamins.
Vitamin A, is an acne vitamin and it helps to reduce the amount of oil produced by our bodies. That in turn helps to prevent acne and also strengthens the the protective tissues. It is required for the maintenance and repair of the mucous membranes and removal of toxins from the body.
Vitamin B is a multi-factorial vitamin for acne that includes Riboflavin, Pantothenic Acid, Thiamine, Niacin and Pyridoxine. Each of these plays an important role in the overall health of the bodys skin. The vitamin B complex also helps to reduce and relieve stress and anxiety in people that appears to be one cause of acne. With increased stress and hormone production comes increased production of oil that leads to clogging of the pores and blemishes.
Vitamin B1 helps with healthy digestion and blood circulation, it also acts as an anti-oxidant by flushing toxins from the body. Vitamin B2 or Riboflavin, is better absorbed by being taken at the same time as Vitamin A. Maintenance of hair, skin, nails and the improvement of mucous membranes is this vitamin’s job. A lack of Vitamin B2 has been cited in outbreaks of acne.
Another acne vitamin is Vitamin B3 or Niacinamide which improves circulation essential for the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Vital for reducing stress and required for the proper function of the adrenal glands which regulates some of the bodys hormones, is Vitamin B5 or Pantothenic Acid.
The last of the B Vitamins, B6 or Pyridoxine is vital for the immune system. The immune system is vital and is required to fight off infections. Without it, bacterial growth would overpower the organs and the result would be widespread infection. This can lead to skin bacteria proliferating and that may lead to skin conditions.
Another of the vitamins for acne is Vitamin C, a powerhouse of an anti-oxidant that helps the function and repair of tissue growth as well as boosting immune system and protection against infection.Vitamin E helps by preventing the accumulation of excess fat and protecting against the formation of free radicals and cell damage.
Before deciding to go beyond a standard multi-vitamin formulation discuss this option with your dermatologist. And never take an excess dose of fat soluble vitamins without the expressed direction and follow up of your doctor. Excess water soluble vitamins are flushed out of your body through the kidneys while fat soluble vitamins are actually stored in the fat of the body. This is key to the potential for a vitamin overdose leading to significant side effects.
If you use Acne Vitamins carefully and sensibly, along with improvements to your nutrition, it could be become a long term viable alternative treatment for acne, without the need for prescribed medication. There are no guarantees however. But improved nutrition will not just promote a healthier skin, it has some other major benefits to your health as well, not just weight loss.
